1. Remove plastic blocking the opening.

Remove the black plastic blocking the pathway.

Remove black plastic pictures

2. Enable CD Print Feature:

I. Make sure the printer is off but is plugged in

II. Hold down [RESUME] (Triangle pointed down) and hold down [POWER] and wait 5 seconds or so.

Release [RESUME] but Continue to hold [POWER]. Double click [RESUME]. then Release [POWER].

Check to see you are in service mode by clicking [RESUME], than [POWER]. This should cause the printer to print a simple diagnostic that’ll list it’s ROM number and list CDR SENSOR=OK in red for the last line.

III. Click the [RESUME] 5 times then click [POWER] . This is the Destination setting option.

IV. Click the [RESUME] 4 times and then [POWER]. This is Europe, CD-R enabled.

Press [RESUME] then [POWER] again.

{{{ This will cause the same test with ROM information but this time: iP4200 EUR V1.04 {in cyan}

V. To confirm the new settings and return to printing mode press [POWER]. { Don’t forget otherwise it will default to JAPAN}.

3. Install the driver.

The USA driver will work just fine, it is on the CD that came with your printer. If the driver was already installed because you have been using the printer before you found this wonderful page, you will need to UNINSTALL it and RE-INSTALL it.

4. Install the CD-LabelPrint Software.

Download cd label print

5. Purchase a tray on eBay.

Search ebay for “Canon CD Tray”: http://search.ebay.com/

I’ve got a strip on the right-hand side of my CD (about 1/2 inch) that won’t print.

    Any ideas???

    What software are you using?

Yes, generally doing a preview before print

Using CD-Label Print as downloaded from the UK site. It worked on my IP6600D just a few weeks ago.

I’ve already given away the bad disks, but imagine a completely unprinted vertical strip along the right-hand side of the disk, about 1/2″ wide at its widest (i.e. at the center). The left edge of the strip is vertical and the strip extends horizontally to the right edge of the disk.

I will recreate on a sample and send an email in a couple of days.

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Yes.

I had to rebuild my system a week or so ago and the first two CD’s I printed since then both have that unprinted area.

    This is really frustrating!

This may not work each time, but I got at least a one-time workaround:

    1) Change Selected Paper > Create new Paper Size 117mm x 17mm
    2) Open the Printer Settings and change Quality to High

No blank stripe on left… YMMV

Now that I just paid for a tray for my pro9000. It occurred to me that this might not work with a MAC. Can you tell me if the MAC driver is ok. If not can you change my order to the ip42000 tray cause I have a pc I use with that printer.

    Thanks in advance

The MAC driver will work fine with the PRO9000, the only problem with MAC’s had is with Canon CD Label Print. If you use other software like Adobe and a template you will have no problems with it. However if you need to use CD Label Print their is help here from other MAC users: http://pixma.ulmb.com/?p=181

I just setup on a PIXMA Pro9500. Just a few notes on differences in your instructions:
You might want to mention to
    1) wait till the blue light stops flashing before double-clicking the resume button or the 5 clicks on resume.
    2) I neglected to raise the inner print tray when attempting to print the diagnostic sheet. Therefore it wouldn’t print.
    3) I needed to load legal size paper, letter was not the correct size for the diagnostic sheet.

The print out for the 9500 diagnostic sheet has version 1.06 on it. The last line is in black and says:
CALIBRATION = OK OK OK CDR(+00063,-00084)

After changing the setting it now says in black ink:
CALIBRATION = OK OK OK CDR(+00021,-00058)

I want to try CD printing with my Canon Pro9000, but looking at the instructions above, I see no “black plastic blocking the pathway”. The only piece of plastic I see is the block on the left side that is out of the way when the front tray is enabled. Do you have a photo showing what you are talking about for the Pro9000?

It seems to me all I would have to do is order the tray E, create a Photoshop template, put the printer in the front tray mode, and just print normally. Is there any reason why this wouldn’t work? In any case, I don’t understand your instructions, above, about removing a piece of plastic. I don’t even see a CD slot for that matter. All I see is a very wide opening in the front that would only work when the front tray is enabled.

    What am I missing?

I figured out which piece folds down to reveal the CD opening — I looked at my MP610 and saw it there, then knew where to look.

Another question — if I install the European firmware (is that even possible?) would that also enable the CD printing?

After making this change, the CD printing works great, but now the printer has terrible correct matching when printing photos. Not sure if it’s related to this change about telling the firmware it’s a European printer, but now I can’t get decent print colors no matter how I set the print driver color settings. Never had this problem before.

What is the key sequence for setting the printer back to a US locale? Europe is:
IV. Click the [RESUME] 4 times and then [POWER]. This is Europe, CD-R enabled.

    What is the US sequence?

The process doesn’t and shouldn’t affect print quality otherwise Europeans would have noticed. Anyways to change it back it’s 3 times instead of 4.

Great help that you provide us for activate the cd label printing option. Now… i have the “The CD-R tray is not inserted or a printable disc is not placed on the CD-R Tray” message problema. i did all steps in this site (5 steps, eeprom reset, uninstall and install, last version of cd labelprint for Widows Vista, cabling, etc) without success… the only thing that i can see is that my printer I4200 came with a F Tray not a C Tray… really have some difference between each tray? if this maybe make a difference, how i can test if a tray C really will work?

    thanks for your comments….

I’ve just purchased a 9000 Pro here in Canada and have followed the steps outlined above.

Before making the changes the lines at the end of the diagnostic sheet read:

CALIBRATION = OK OK OK CDR (000000, 000000)
    NGNGNGNGNGNGNGNGNGNGNG

Does this mean that my printer lacks the sensor?

OK I tried this a number of times: (in all cases, the ROM ver is showing as 1.12)

#1 Europe settings > Europe settings
first sht says CDR (000000, 000000)
    conf sht says CDR (+00952,000000)
#2 Europe settings > Europe settings again
    first sht says CDR (000000,000000)
    conf sht says CDR (000000,000000)
#3 Europe settings > US setting
    first sht says CDR (+00084,000000)
    conf sht says CDR (000000,000000)
#4 US setting > Europe setting
    first sht says CDR (000000,000000)
    conf sht says CDR (000000,000000)

Any idea what these codes represent?

The instructions are for the original Pro9000. Canon made changes for the Mark II and Canon has now block this process for their newer printer line.

I’m sure the Mark II is a pretty good printer but you will need the original Pro9000 to print on CD/DVD media.

I just bought a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MKII, is there any updates on being able to print on CD/DVD media?? I just ordered a tray from eBay, amd I going to need to do anything to this new unit I just recieved, in order to print on CD/DVD media ?? I saw all the instructions for the pro models, but it kind of just dried out at the beginning of the release of the MK II line..???

Sadly the newer Canons aren’t capable of enabling the feature. You need to buy an older model Pro9000 or buy a Canadian Pro9000 MK II.

Well unfortunately I paid $25.00 for a cd printing tray, because when I talked to a rep from Canon, he said that is all I would need, and that was the only difference between the european model and the USA version. He said, really all you have to do is add the print tray. But I am going off of what you are saying, so I am returning my USA model back to Amazon.com, and I am buying a European model from Germany, but be aware, the prices are about double the US prices, with the conversion rate and all. So if you want euro. version from the UK, you are going to pay double what you would for a reguler model hear, and that is if you can even find someone that will ship to the US, and that is 50 times harder than locating the printer itself. Actually what I am going to do is wait until i get the tray, and the european version, and put them side by side, and see if there are any other noticeable differences, and I will let you al know what I see.

I have bought from them before, I bought a euro model of an external DVD RW I wanted, it came and it was for sure the correct model, price was obviously a little higher, but funny thing is, it shipped out of Washington State, and did not ship directly from Canada.

I have A QUESTION, how come there is no cd label software available on the Canon EU. site, for anything other than Apple/Mac computers??

I hate to be rude, but Doug, are you 100% positive, that it is not just amatter of popping off that black piece of plastic, and popping in the cd tray and just print to the cd, on the MK II ??

I mean, I do not understand why they would try to “disable” the function altogether, just for the US models. Doesn’t that sound crazy ?? Why go through all the trouble, just to change the entire design of the unit. From what the guy told me at Canon, it is just that Canon did not want to pay the patent price, or whatever the heck it is.

Have you, yourself actually tried to print on a cd using the tray, with the MK II versions ?

I contacted Canadian NCIX store and they said I would have to order the printer from their US site. Therefore, the only way to get a Canadian one (at least through NCIX) is to DRIVE to Canada.

What is the problem with Canon anyway, that they won’t make CD/DVD printing available in the US? Both HP and Epson do it. Why can’t Canon get their licensing worked out? If the Canon Mark II wasn’t much higher rated, I would switch to Epson or HP — tempted to do it anyway since I use CD/DVD printing a lot.

Hey Doug, Well I took the advice as well to order from NCIX, (I cancelled my order that was coming from Germany), and anyway, I went ahead and ordered it from their website, and I didn’t have a problem, shipping was expensive, but that is the price you pay. Obviously with shipping and all the printer is a bit more, than you can get it here for, but I just called to get an order status, and all they said was it is going take them a few days to get the item in, since it is special order, but they have already charged my pay pal account, and processed the payment info, and assured me, that this printer will be shipping from BC, and that it is indeed a 100% Canadian model. I will have it by next week, either Wednesday or Thursday, and I will kepp ya’ll abreast of the situation.

I will be interested to here if it arrives with the CD/DVD feature functioning. If it does, I will consider ordering one myself. I have a Pro9000 now, and I’m not sure how much of an improvement the Mark II is, so I’ll have to consider that.

I will let you know, they have assured me it will, but we’ll just have to see. I sure hope these printers print really, really well on cd/dvd’s, for all this trouble I am going through, and the expense………….I just hope the print quality on cd/dvd media is great. So far I have not come across anything that prints 1/2 way descent on cd/dvd media, I only wish Lexmark made a printer that had this capability, because my Lexmark was around $149.00, and I have not come across a printer yet, that can even print a picture anywhere near the quality of my lexmark, and I am just now sending back an Epson R1900, that couldn’t even come close to the Lexmark quality. That is my main purpose for even buying this printer, is for that cd/dvd media printing function; I have no other use for it, because like I said, I have my lexmark for all my other printing..

In both cases it worked for a while then quit. Have heard anything about this? I check on-line and others are having the same problem, but I have not heard of a fix. I tried Sure Thing. but have not been able to get it to print any way near the right place on the tray.
