1. Remove plastic blocking the opening.

This can be done very easily with a screw driver. Just lower the door down and slide a flathead screwdriver down behind the plastic piece and very gently push forward.

Be very careful not to damage the soft bendable plastic, might want to wrap the screwdriver in tape first so it doesn’t scrap the plastic either.

I recommend placing the screwdriver in at one end, don’t try it in the middle.

It should pop out without much effort.

2. How to enable the cd print feature:

I. Make sure the printer is off but is plugged in

II. Hold down [RESUME] (Triangle pointed down) and hold down [POWER] and wait 5 seconds or so.

Release [RESUME] but Continue to hold [POWER]. Double click [RESUME]. then Release [POWER].

Check to see you are in service mode by clicking [RESUME], than [POWER]. This should cause the printer to print a simple diagnostic that’ll list it’s ROM number and list CDR SENSOR=OK in red for the last line.

{{{ Note the color of “iPxxx (LTR) V1.xx”. Non-CDR support will be cyan. Keep this sheet to compare to the one after you change the settings. }}}

III. Click the [RESUME] 5 times then click [POWER].This is the Destination setting option.

IV. Click the [RESUME] 5 times “again” and then [POWER]. This is non Japan, CD-R enabled, letter paper mode.

Press [RESUME] then [POWER] again.

{{{ This should cause the same test with ROM information but this time the “iPxxx (LTR) V1.xx” will be pink. }}}

V. To confirm the new settings and return to printing mode press [POWER]. ß { Don’t forget otherwise it will default to JAPAN IPx100}.

3. Install the driver.

The USA driver will work just fine, it is on the CD that came with your printer. If the driver was already installed because you have been using the printer before you found this wonderful page, you will need to UNINSTALL it and RE-INSTALL it.

4. Install Software

a. CDLabelPrint
b. Nero Cover Designer
c. Acoustica CD Label maker

CD Label Print is OK but some users would prefer other software to create there designs in so I have links to other software such as Nero Cover Designer and Acoustica. If you use Adobe there is a template for it as well: Adobe InDesign template

5. Purchase a Tray

You will need to purchase a tray for the printable cd or dvd to sit on. To know what Tray Letter you need simply look at the properties after you have finished:

Search eBay for “Canon cd tray”: http://search.ebay.com/

There is no chip in the IP4000 only the newer IP4200 and IP4300, etc, have them. So you are free to use third party carts or refill without it being a factor.

Hello, I followed all the steps for the IP4000…but I get this message when I try to print on a printable cd:

Printing cannot be executed because the Inner Cover is open. Close cover and press resume.
What am I doing wrong? The test print says CDR sensor = OK adn the iP4000 letters are pink. I set the registry address to 1. Thank you, Zemo

Thanks for the eazy steps, really easy to understand. I have a question however. I’ve read that for the iP8500 you have to or should buy the rollers along with a tray. Could you shed some light on this for me please.

    Thanx

    Hi:

I have the IP4300 and I followed your instructions for the CD tray to the letter, twice. Everything is as you say it should be, except the color of the type at the top of the diagnostic is black instead of cyan or pink. It never changed color. The CDR SENSOR=OK is in pink at the bottom.

Although it didn’t change colors at the top like it should have, I confirmed the settings both times.

However I don’t know whether it’s working now or not.

    The line at top reads:

    iP4300 v1.05 D=002.9 USB=(20E57A)

Also, when do you put the F tray in, and what is the procedure for actually printing once you’ve designed the label?

    thanks
    Jim

    James Lawrence:

I’m not sure why it did not change color, it may work anyways, if you have a tray F give it a try. If you get a tray rejection it may not have worked the first time.

There is video here which should help you figure when the tray goes in: http://pixma.ulmb.com/?p=105

Anyone have problem using iP6000D with Vista 64? All softwares and driver installed correctly, test page prints out fine, but when I try to start CD-label print 1.30, a window pops out and indicates “A compatible printer for printing CD media was not found”. What gives?

I was using the same printer with Win XP and everything works perfectly.

Have tried other software to see whether it is CD Label Print that is causing the problem?

Nero Cover Designer or Adobe Template to see if it will take you to the preview screen.

Sorry I didn’t tried other softwares.

I gave up and bought a MP830 and everything works perfectly with my new Vista 64 machine. $249.99-40Coupon-$50Staples rebate (this week only) = $159.99 for it is too good to pass :)

Perhaps it’s the Vista native driver that is causing this problem. Canon do not have an driver for Vista machines, their website shows Vista has native support iP6000D. Apparently not fully supported :(

Hi, I tried this with my iP4500 printer, purchased in Canada. It was a little different. I don’t see any plastic cover blocking at the CD Tray opening. Looks like the tray can go straight in. I ordered the tray on eBay and it will be coming soon.

Also, the printouts from service mode were different. The colour of the iP4500 text at the top did not change. The first printout said SET=CND at the top and IP4500CND at the bottom. The second printout said SET=AUS at the top and IP4500AUS at the bottom.

Looks like it worked, but I will have to wait until I get a tray to give it a go.

You attach a cd or dvd to the tray and then open the first door and then lower the inner door and then slide the tray in lining up the arrows on the tray with the arrows on the inner door.

RE ip8500, after proframming unit, I already have Vista Premiuim and Nero 8. Do I have to reinstall NERO 8 to recognize tray?

Also, your Nero link goes to Nero website and not software. How do I get NERO to work with tray.

Also, I dowloaded CD lavel print, and gor a Chinese version. How do I get it in English?

Also, Vista does no allow uninstall printer driver. You can delete the printer fron Device Manager and add the printer, but I don’t think that uninstalls driver, which is part of the Vista software.

Leave a reply to my email. There is no box to check.

No need to re-install Nero 8 it will recognize the tray. There are Nero templates under the template category on this site.

You downloaded the Chinese version of CD Label Print, download the English version instead.

The Canon driver has a setup and uninstaller like any other program. Click the Control Panel and then Programs and Features and you will find a listing for it.

I have gone through the steps many times and I am not able to pull up the CD tray on the drop down menu’s for either Paper Size or for quality and media (media type). There is no CD-R tray or anything like printable CD media listed. It is simply not there. What do I need to do? I have a MAC with OS X and lable print software. If I need to reinstall software, how? Thanks Ben

I have an iP4500 and my diagnostic printout looks different that the one shown. The top line of mine looks like the following:

    iP4500 M=V1.030 D=004.8 USB=(12A1F9) SET=USA E-MIPCF=1

Everything is printed in black ink except for the “0004.8″ in printed in pink ink.

Once I do the resume button 5 times and then another 5 times, the new diagnostic is exactly the same except for “SET=USA” has changed to “SET=AUS”.

    CAN YOU PLEASE HELP!
    THANKS!

    Warning:
Avoid using no-name inks. I had to trash my first Canon printer because the no-name inks blocked the printing head, and it was impossible to clean. I dried my CD’s under an Infra-red lamp and they are not as susceptible to sweaty fingers.
